the flags you can use with the command.

Flags

git add
The different modes are shown in the following table.
Order | New File | Modify the file | Deleted files |
---|---|---|---|
git add -A <optional_path> |
✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
git add . |
✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
git add --ignore-removal . |
✅ | ✅ | ❌ |
git add -u |
❌ | ✅ | ✅ |
The first two commands, git add -A
and , git add .
are similar in functionality, as both are used to stage all files ( new
, modified
, deleted
). Furthermore, the commands git add -A
are equivalent to git add -all
. The only difference between the two commands is git add .
that adds all files in the current folder, whereas if you run git add -A
without specifying a path, it will add all files to the staging, regardless of the directory you run the command from.
The third flag works completely differently, as it only adds new and modified files to the staging, whereas the last command git add -u
only stages modified and deleted files. git add -u
The long form of is git add --update
.
